Game Cities Guide

The world: real cities, Base Romu's and the casino

The Game Cities map is the planet. Streets, blocks and names come from OpenStreetMap; buildings and terrain from Google's photorealistic 3D. You walk the same corners you see on your city's map — only overrun by the dead.

The globe and the jump

On the world map (G key or the 🌍 button) you pick anywhere on the planet. You travel by plane — an Embraer C-390 — or by helicopter, and you arrive by parachute: you jump, steer around buildings, hills and treetops and land on the street you chose. Where Google does not have the buildings in 3D yet, the game builds the city from the open maps' buildings.

Base Romu's

Base Romu's is a platform out at sea, about 370 km off the coast of Paraíba, Brazil, with an aircraft carrier alongside. Every game starts there, on the heliport. There are no zombies and no fatigue: soldiers, vendors and other survivors walk around, and the container shops sell weapons, ammo, clothes and food. Talk to people (E key) — vendors show what they have. The plane and the SH-60B Seahawk helicopter leave for the cities from the carrier and the heliport.

The Casino Estoril

In Estoril, near Lisbon, the casino is a safe haven: inside, weapons are put away and zombies cannot get in. At the cashier you swap in-game gold for chips and play Texas Hold'em poker with other players, blackjack against the dealer and slot machines. Chips exist only in the game: there is no real-money betting and nothing has prize value outside it.

Inside buildings

Many buildings can be explored inside, with floors, stairs, rooms and furniture that opens. The marked door shows the entrance (E key). Inside you find items, food, ammo and the books that train your skills — and the exit is always in sight.

Cars

Cars parked on the streets and in garages can be driven. Each one has fuel, parts and wear: crashes dent the body, burst tires and break windows. The Mechanics skill lets you repair them, and Driving makes the car steadier in turns and when braking.

Weather and time of day

The sky shifts between night, dusk and overcast day, with drizzle, rain, thunderstorms, hail, acid rain and ash fall. At night the flashlight makes a difference — to see and to be seen.

Playing with other people

With an account, other people's survivors show up in real time in the same area of the map. There is text chat, a friends list (with "Go near") and kill rankings by neighborhood, city, country and continent, with the podium on the main screen.
